£5m For Coventry Schools Repairs

Schools
in Coventry were celebrating today after hearing that they have been
awarded more than £5 million of government money for vital repairs.
The
grant of over £5,250,000 will allow improvements at schools across
the city.
It
is the fourth round of New Deal money that has been given to the city
by the Department for Education and Employment and includes:
- Replacement
of the junior block at Coundon Primary school
- Replacement
of temporary classroom accommodation with permanent classrooms at
Ravensdale and Foleshill CE Primary schools
- Refurbishment
of the science accommodation at Barrs Hill and Alderman Callow
Secondary schools
- Refurbishing
the design and technology areas at Ernesford Grange and Caludon
Castle Secondary Schools.
There
will also be other work to improve health and safety at other schools.
Other
schools to have received money for changes in previous spending rounds
include Bishop Ullathorne RC School, John Gulson Primary School and
Sidney Stringer Secondary School.
Cllr
George Duggins, chairman of the Education and Cultural Affairs Police
Co-ordinating Committee said:
“This
is great news – we always welcome money to invest in our schools
and this will allow us to carry out some important improvements to
school buildings.
“Good
surroundings can only have a positive effect on pupils and staff and
over the years we have invested consistently in our schools,
maintaining them to a standard far beyond that managed by other
authorities.”
