A woman has been evicted from her council flat in Hillfields in
Coventry after a campaign of terror that included a stabbing, making
noise and throwing things at people from her balcony.
The tenant, who has not been named, had her flat in Douglas House
repossessed following a hearing at Coventry County Court, at which
evidence of her anti-social behaviour was given.
Council officials have moved in to reclaim the flat. The tenant is
currently serving a prison sentence.
Staff working for the concierge scheme, which monitors all illegal
activity in the six high-rise blocks of flats in the area, collected
evidence along with police and environmental protection officers.
They listed a series of offences including:
- a stabbing
- excessive and persistent noise
- throwing glass and a radio from the balcony
- setting off fireworks from the balcony and spitting from there
- vandalism and graffiti
- threatening behaviour with a spanner
Cllr Peter Lacy (Labour, Sherbourne) said the action was a prime
example of different agencies in the area working together in the
Safer Estates partnership.
He said:
"It is a vital component of our strategy for tackling
anti-social behaviour, particularly the most acute cases, where the
victims are often too frightened to provide the direct evidence
needed to bring a case to court.
"Other cases will soon be coming before the court as part of
our continuing drive to improve the quality of life for all our
tenants and their families."
Sgt John Eaton added:
"This case provides the clearest evidence yet that our
partnership is working. It will, in the longer term, provide more
real benefits for the residents of Hillfields."
