It was announced today that the new four-day
collection scheme for household refuse will begin on Tuesday 15
February.
Councillor
John McNicholas, Chair of the Environment and Transportation Policy
Team said:
"Having carried out surveys to establish what
people would like from the refuse collection service, we found that
there is already a high satisfaction level with the present service,
but some customers were concerned about missed collections on Bank
Holiday Mondays."
"The Environment and Transportation Policy
Team were determined to meet this challenge, and asked Coventry
Contract Services to provide a solution which would meet the needs
of our customers. The four-day collection service is their answer to
this problem.
"I am confident that the new arrangements
will overcome these concerns, and allow the City Council to provide
a service which is closer to our customer’s needs."
Councillor Lindsley Harvard, Chair of the Best Value
Team added:
"I am pleased that we have been able to bring
together this new collection schedule, to provide the service people
told us they wanted.
"A number of different parts of the City
Council have worked together to provide this new service. It will
both meet what our customers told us they wanted, and provide a
value for money service for the city."
Councillor David Cairns, Deputy Chair of Coventry
Contract Service Board said:
"We have looked at the best way that Coventry
Contract Services could provide the new service, and with the close
co-operation of our workforce, we have produced a new schedule for
collections."
He added:
"This, along with modernising the equipment
we use, will enable us to provide an efficient service at a
competitive cost, while operating on only four days each week."
The new service will operate on four days –
Tuesday to Friday each week to overcome the problem of collections on
Bank Holiday Mondays. Special arrangements will be put into place to
cover Christmas and New Year each year.
To inform every household across the city about the
new arrangements, 120,000 leaflets will be delivered during the next
four weeks. Everyone is urged to look out for the leaflet dropping on
their doormat and to make sure they are familiar with the new
collection days.
