On Saturday 25 September and Saturday 2 October between 9am and 2pm local
young actors, narrators, musicians and dancers will be auditioning for a new Coventry
Youth Performance Company (CYPC) organised by the City Councils Education Department
at the Belgrade Theatre. The Company will eventually perform Our Town Story at
the Dome, London on 3 November 2000.
The youngsters, all aged between 10 and 18 will each perform a short piece (up to three
minutes). An audition panel will select the young people who will be notified by post if
they have been successful in gaining a place with CYPC.
Our Town Story will be a new piece created specifically for the millennium about
Coventry and over 100 youngsters are expected to audition.
All of the performers must be available during October 2000 when the premier of Our
Town Story will be performed at the Belgrade and toured around Coventry before the
performance at the Dome in November 2000.
The candidates for the auditions can choose one art form or a combination and can wear
a costume if they choose to.
Councillor
Joe Clifford, Chair of the Educational Excellence Policy Team, said:
"Our Town Story will be a great opportunity to show the talent among young people
in this City and will add to the many projects highlighting the millennium. Its
tremendous to see so many youngsters are keen to get involved and I wish all of those who
audition every success."
Our Town Story is supported by McDonalds and the Millennium Commission as part of the
UK wide Millennium Festival and is linked to Coventrys education and community
millennium project.
