Coventry school children are to star in a new national series for Channel 4
Schools Programme and get the chance to improve on their sporting skills at the
same time.
Foleshill C of E school are taking part in "Top Team" a short series
of programmes aimed at 7 11 year olds, aimed at promoting physical activity showing
how much fun sport can be, and helping children overcome their fears.
The Top Team themselves are a fictional group of children in year 6 and are played by
actors. The rest of the cast is made up of children from Foleshill C of E school, who will
also be sharing the limelight with a host of well-known faces from the world of sport.
Filming was arranged with the help of Ken Adamson the City Councils
Advisory Teacher for PE, who supports PE and sports in schools. The script for the series
has been written by well-known writer Chris Lillicrap.
Councillor George Duggins, Chair of the City Councils Education and Cultural
Affairs PCC says;
"The films will be great fun for the children to take part in, as well as an
important teaching tool to promote sport. We do a lot of work in Coventry to encourage
children to enjoy sport, and its good to know that a local school is taking an
active in promoting sport nationally."
And headteacher Mr David Stanier is pleased that the school is taking part,
"This is great for the school and we are happy to be included in such an exciting
project."
Sporting stars appearing in the films and sharing their experience advice over the next
three weeks include Neville Southall (football), Annabel Croft (tennis), Vikram Solanki
(cricket), Kendra Slawinski (netball), Lisa Lomas (table tennis) and Adam Whitehead
(swimming).
