Coventry
is to host the regional Local and Family History Fair for the third year running.
Forming part of the Godiva Weekend activities, the Fair will draw together Council
Services and voluntary organisations involved in local and family history. Its theme will
be Coventrys Industry.
Cllr Gillian Darby, Chair of the Arts and Culture Policy Team, said today:
"The Fair puts a spotlight on heritage services and demonstrates how interesting
and exciting history can be as a pastime when its related to actual families,
streets and homes; an interest which is being nurtured by popular TV programmes such as
meet The Ancestors. The Fair also highlights the sheer number of organisations involved in
local and family history in Coventry and the surrounding counties and the wealth of
information that is within easy reach."
Organisations involved this year include local history groups from Hillfields,
Earlsdon, Berkswell and Southam, family history groups from Coventry Warwickshrie and
surrounding counties, archaeological groups from Coventry, Warwickshire and Birmingham,
and Coventrys local history and archive services, the Herbert Art Gallery and
Museum, Museum of British Road transport and Midland Air Museum.
The fair will run on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June, in the Citys memorial Park,
11am to 6pm each day. CWN will also be there with live internet connections.
