Lord Falconer To Meet The PhoenixMembers of
Coventry City Councils Phoenix Initiative project team will be welcoming Lord
Falconer and the Millennium Voyager to the city on Wednesday 7 April.
Together with Bryan Richardson, Chair of Coventry City Football Club, Lord Falconer
will be opening the Voyager a spectacular mobile exhibition showcasing
the numerous projects funded by the Millennium Commission across the country. The launch
will also be attended by Cllr John Fletcher, and Phoenix Initiative Project Director,
Chris Beck.
Cannon Park Shopping centre is kindly playing host to the huge, touring exhibition,
which features interactive and multimedia displays to demonstrate the various projects and
awards made possible in Britain through National Lottery funding. Information will also be
available on how people can apply for remaining funds from the Millennium Commission. The
exhibition, which is free to the public, will remain at Cannon Park for the rest of the
week.
The Rt Hon. Chris Smith MP, chairman of the Millennium Commission, said
"The Millennium Voyager is a great opportunity for people in Coventry to learn
more about how the West Midlands and the country as a whole is benefiting from this
ambitious national programme to mark the end of this millennium and celebrate the
beginning of the next."
Chris Beck, Phoenix Initiative Project Director said,
"The exhibition and multimedia displays in the Voyager show what an astonishing
variety of projects the Millennium Commission are undertaking. Im sure people will
be as curious as I am to see whats happening in other cities, and see how they
compare to our own Phoenix Initiative."
NOTES
Coventry is the 14th stop on a 23 town and city
tour of the UK, celebrating a grand total of 188 capital projects.
The Millennium Commission has so far awarded a total of
£84 million of National Lottery funds to projects, including £10 million to the Phoenix
Initiative, an urban regeneration scheme for Coventry City Centre.
The Voyager will be at Cannon Park, open to the public,
until Sunday 11 April, when it will go to Cardiff.
