Flies In To Take Helm At Jaguar
Jaguar
Racing have recruited Formula One legend Niki Lauda to head their
effort in this year’s championship following a disappointing debut
season.
The
three-time world champion will become the new chief executive
officer at the team.
He
has signed a contract through to the end of the 2003 season.
Jaguar
struggled last season following their return to the sport. Hopes of
continuing the progress of the old Stewart team, taken over by
Jaguar, evaporated as the cars were dogged with reliability
problems.
Lauda,
who resigned from his airline business last year, told Austrian
radio:
"As
of today I am responsible for Jaguar's entire performance
division.”
His
last direct involvement in F1 was five years ago with Ferrari. He
was badly burned while behind the wheel of a Ferrari in 1976, and
stunned the motorsport world by coming back to win the world title
in 1977.
