Writing Competition Runner Up
The
Rev David Harris was the runner-up in the competition, with a poem
simply titled Coventry.
COVENTRY
Come
with me, friends, I’ll show you
City of a thousand years
From Anglo-Saxon, Cofa’s tree
Convent centrally appears.
Godiva, beneath three lordly spires
Bared to banish that hated tax
As poets recall, Mysteries unfolding
City of Guilds, fashioning flax
Through centuries fluctuating
Ribbon-clock-cycle-car-cab
Till a November night in wartime
When “Koventrate” joins vocab.
In “Camera Principis” I’ll never send you away
From newly born City, inspiring every day.
