SEP 00] HERITAGE OPEN DAYS NEWS
Fun And Frolics At The Herbert
The
building might be more modern than many others in this year's Heritage
Open Days, but there is a treasure trove of history waiting to be
discovered at the Herbert Art Gallery.
People
will be able to look at the hidden wonders of Coventry's history on
tours of the museum stores on Saturday.
They
run at 10.30am, 12.30, 1.30 and 3.30pm and must be booked in advanced.
On
Sunday at the same times there will be Godiva tours of the museum,
showing off the range of paintings of the famous lady.
Coventry’s
modern day Lady Godiva, Pru Poretta, will be accompanying the tour to
bring to life the history and the myths surrounding the naked
protestor.
This
will be followed by workshops that are fun for the whole family.
To
book either event call Clayton Shaw on (024) 7683 1701.
Fuel
problems permitting, traditional Morris dancing will greet visitors to
the museum when Coventry troupe Elephant Up A Pole take to the square
fronting Earl Street on Saturday.
They
will be dancing with their blackened faces and a range of sticks,
trowels and ribbons between 12pm and 2pm.
And
on Sunday the entertainment will be performed by strolling Elizabethan
minstrel Dante Ferrarra, who will play a range of period instruments
while dressed in 16th century costume.
