[22 NOV 00] NATIONAL BLOOD SERVICE NEWS
Blood To Flow At Racecourse

Blood donor sessions in Warwick are galloping along so well that they are being moved to the racecourse.

So many people have been visiting the current sessions in the Nelson Club that organisers are having to move to bigger premises to try and fit more people in.

The first session will be in the Paddock Restaurant, reached from Hampton Street on 28 November from 1.30pm to 3.0pm and 4.30pm to 7pm.

A Midlands spokesman for the Blood Service said:

“We have been going to our old venue, the Nelson Club, for a long time and are very grateful for their support, but the Warwick session is growing and we needed to find somewhere which would give us the potential to be more flexible with opening times.

“Also, the racecourse has the big advantage of being well signposted and having car parking.”

A typical session in Warwick brings in more than 120 donations, and the Blood Service is hoping to increase this and hold more regular sessions in the town.

The spokesman added:

“There is a great need for new donors through the Midlands as only about six per cent of the available population are enrolled donors.”

Anyone aged 17 to 60 who is over 50kg and in good health can probably become a donor – more information on 0345 711711.
