[27 FEB 00] STANTON BRIDGE & SIDNEY STRINGER

I went to Stanton Bridge Primary School in Coventry from 1969 until 1976. Then I went on to Sidney Stringer School from 1976 to 1982.

I left Coventry in 1985 and now live in Canada.

I'm looking for old friends that may remember me. I was in Blue North at Sidney Stringer for those of you that remember what that was.

This is a great site.

I went to Manor Park Primary School in Coventry (1968-72) and then to Woodlands Secondary School (1972-77). I left the area in 1977 and now live in Wimborne, Dorset.

I would like to hear from anyone who was at the schools during this period. I was in Cresswell House during my stay, and I would like to hear from Mark Sterns, Greg Sawbridge, Terry Coleman, Ian Cowie or Andrew Hall.

[21 FEB 00] BUTLER, HINDS & VENUS

My name is Brian Butler. I was born at Gulson Road Hospital in 1938, my parents were Frederick Charles Butler and Anne Marie (née Hinds).

I lived at 150 Profitt Avenue, Bell Green, Coventry and attended St Lawrence's (Old Church) School until 1949. We then moved to 52 Edgwick Road, Foleshill and I attended King Henry VIII Grammar School until 1954.

From 1954 to 1959 I served my apprenticeship at Alfred Herbert's, my nickname was Bill.

In 1959 I married Estelle Venus who lived at 22 Page Road, Canley and we moved to Allesley and then to Keresley.

In 1968 we emigrated to Canada and currently reside in Hamilton, Ontario.

Any of the above ring a bell? I would love to hear from anyone who may have known either of us or anything about any of the above.

We had lots of cousins (Hinds) who we believe still live in the area and (Venus) in the Styvichale, Bedworth and Nuneaton areas.

[19 FEB 00] POWs IN COVENTRY 1914-19

Does anyone know where Whitley Abbey is, and if POWs were kept there during the First World War?

There was also a camp at Radford. Does anybody know what kind of work they could have done there?

[EDITOR: Can anyone help on this one? We'd be interested to know as well - contact us if you have any memories of these Prisoner of War camps.]

[19 FEB 00] BERKSWELL

I was so pleased to find your website as I was living in the Coventry area before and during the second World War.

Actually I lived in Berkswell, a beautiful area outside the city. I would love to hear from anyone in that area.

I have been in Canada since the end of World War II. I married a Canadian Naval Officer in St John the Baptist Church in Berkswell so have wonderful memories.

I hope to hear from someone in that area.

[19 FEB 00] RESEARCHING MY GRANDFATHER CARNEY

I am doing research on my grandfather.

He emigrated from Ireland to England in about 1910 and then to the States approximately 10 years later. His last know address listed on the passenger manifest was Coventry.

It is my understanding, that he had a brother who remained in England and opened a bar, pub, or taproom.

My grandfather's name was John Frederick Carney. I believe that the brother who remained behind was called Anthony.

I saw your website and thought I would see if you had any information or where I could obtain information that might prove to lead to any relatives that may be living in Coventry.

Thanks for your help.

[14 FEB 00] LOOKING FOR ANDREW WILKIE

I am visiting Canada in June this year, and I am looking to get in contact with an old school friend and pal, Andrew Wilkie, who used to live at Unicorn Avenue, Eastern Green, Coventry and moved to Canada with his family in 1977 (or thereabouts).

We kept in touch for a while but then lost contact.

We both attended Parkhill and Woodlands Schools in Coventry and Andrew was an avid Coventry City fan. I used to live in Osbaston Close, Eastern Green.
