- January 1999 [31 JAN 99] LOOKING FOR DIANE DRAKELEY
I would like to contact Diane Drakeley.
Her father kept the Mount Pleasant pub on the Hinckley Road
in Walsgrave back in the '50s and '60s. The last time I saw her was in the '70s and she
was a traffic warden in Coventry. I moved to the US in 1974 and lost touch with her.
If anyone knows of her whereabouts, please let me know.

[30 JAN 99] VISIT TO COVENTRY
My ancestors came to the US from Coventry some time ago and
I would like to return to see from whence they came. I will be planning a trip later this
year. Would like to hear from anyone over there that has the same name. I had DeBretts
Peerage do a brief scan some years back which was enlightening but would like to know
more. They got back to the 1700's.

[24 JAN 99] THE STRESS OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION (SOBA)
Almost fifty years ago a group of young men worked in the
design office at Sir W G Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft Ltd at Baginton. Over a period
of about five years (1954 1959ish) a strong social life developed amongst a group
of about fifty or sixty, that was ended by the contraction and eventual closure of the
Baginton plant. At one of the later social events a membership book of names and addresses
was created.
The members of the group left AWA for other careers. Some
continued in UK industry, many started to teach engineering in colleges, others left to
work overseas.
The membership book of this group, affectionately called
'The Stress Old Boys Association (SOBA)', has now recently come to light. Some of the
members have been traced and two meetings have taken place at the 'Baginton Oak', now
called 'The Oak'. Twelve have been accounted for from as far afield as America and New
Zealand but forty-two have not been accounted for.
One ambition is to have a Y2K reunion of as many members as
possible. Eric Memmott is the prime mover (as always) in the effort to re-establish the
group. If you were a member of the group or know someone who was could you please call
Eric on 01672 851364 or myself by email at horology@newbernnc.com

[20 JAN 99] GREETINGS FROM PHOENIX, ARIZONA
Well I'll be! I stumbled upon this website by accident and
just love it! WAY TO GO CWN!
My name is Alison Brownlee. I was born and raised in
Coventry but now live in the US. I attended Stoke Lodge Private School untill 1981, then
attended Woodway Park School in Potters Green untill I left in 1984.
I grew up in Dennis Road, Wyken. At age 11 my family moved
to Merryfields Close in Walsgrave, then when I was 15 we moved to Potters Green.
I worked for a short while at Rumbelows Distribution Center
(also in Potters Green) before I took off to seek my 'Fame and Fortune'! Well, I didn't
find it! But I had the best time of my life back packing around Europe. :) I lived in
Garmisch, Germany for 3 years before moving to America.
I'd love to hear from anybody that may possibly remember
me,or any of my old school friends from Stoke Lodge or Woodway Park. I'm now 30 (so that
should give you an idea of the generation I grew up with).
Hope to hear from somebody soon. Bye for now.

[20 JAN 99] WEBCAM VIEWS
Hi!
I just love your cameras! It´s great to be able to take a
quick look at Coventry, after having lived there for 1 year. Just a suggestion (or a
question), though: why are the images from places so close to each other? Why not point
webcam2 to the shopping precinct (as it was before)? It is a much livier place, and much
more fun!
Congratulations on your great job on the site!
Cheers

EDITOR: Alas we moved offices so we no
longer have a window overlooking the Precinct. But keep tuning in - new views on their way
soon.
[19 JAN 99] LOOKING FOR JOHN & BARBARA CREEDY
Your site URL was given to me by my brother and I have
found it very interesting, especially the webcams and have passed it on to other Coventry
ex-patriats. I have been trying to find some old friends called John and Barbara Creedy.
Last known address 148 London Road.
My husband and I left Coventry in 1963. We will be looking
at your site regularly from now on.

[16 JAN 99] TRYING TO LOCATE JOSEPHINE DAVIS
JOSEPHINE DAVIS, now in her late 70's, formerly of Rugby.
Born there where her father, William Davis, ran a law practice. Worked in Istanbul around
the end of WW2. She often visited her grandparents in Gargrave, North Yorkshire.
The Canadian Branch of the family is trying to locate her,
the last surviving member of her branch.

[07 JAN 99] HI FROM CANADA
I have just reviewed the guest book and Old School friends
listing. I use to go to Binley School, until 1960, I know it no longer exists, but there
must be a number of people out there who went to the school.
I also spent a number of years at AWA / WGA / HSA
(Baginton) as an apprentice and later at GEC Stoke & Helen Street. I especially
remember school friends Bob Ashcroft, Mike McGuiness, John McKenzie, Hugh Kennedy, Trevor
Bedford to mention but a few. If anyone knows of anyone's whereabouts please pass on my
email address.
All the best for 1999 Coventry.

[04 JAN 99] GREETINGS FROM BARBADOS
I'm presently living in Barbados and I am hoping to hear
from any friends I knew in Coventry. I used to attend Foxford Comprehensive School from
1978 to 1982. I was in West House. Also I lived in Bell Green, near Little Heath Primary
School; I also attended that school.

[02 JAN 99] LOCAL EMAIL DIRECTORY?
I have been visiting this page ever since last year. I had
a few months where I was not on line - I like what you have done to the site, it has
really grown.
My idea is - why not get a list of Coventry citizens who
are on the Net and can have their email address on the list. A sort of 'contact the
citizens' type of thing. Thanks for taking time to read me.

EDITOR: What do people think - would a
local email directory be useful? Entries on a voluntary basis of course. We'll be happy to
operate such a directory if there is demand.
Let us know what you think.
