Universities Win £3MillionA proposal from
the universities of Birmingham and Warwick has been awarded £3 million under the
government's "University Challenge" initiative.
The money will be used to set up a fund to invest in new high-technology companies that
use research developments from the region's universities. This will make an important
contribution to economic regeneration in new sectors and new industries. The fund will be
managed by an independent board.
This is good news not just for the Universities of Birmingham and Warwick but for our
region as a whole. The two universities will work together too use this £3 million to
turn high technology projects in our region's 8 universities into entrepreneurial high
technology businesses bringing both jobs and revenue to our region.
