[22
JAN 99] UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK PRESS RELEASE
Increase In Number Applying To Warwick UniEarly figures for the number of students applying to UK Universities
show that the University of Warwick has seen a 12% increase in the number of students
applying to study at the University. In fact, the university has achieved the second
highest increase in application numbers of all 101 UK universities.
Only 14 UK universities are reporting an increase in
applications this year, some are currently looking at falls of over 33% in application
numbers. The rise in application numbers at Warwick, despite the national trend, reflects
Warwick's reputation as one of the UK's top five Universities for research and teaching.
In the last 12 months both the Times and the Financial
Times ranked Warwick ahead of Oxford for the quality of its teaching. With the
introduction of student fees there is increased financial pressure on students. Students
and parents are thus scrutinising much more closely than ever before the reputation of the
institutions they are applying to and the quality of teaching they can expect to receive.
