Twits Take Centre Stage At Warwick
Bill
Clinton and Tony Blair were visiting Warwick University today,
but hundreds of children were having their fun too.
Tight
security measures were being put in place this morning to
prepare for the President’s flying visit.
The
University of Warwick was selected for the trip as a modern
setting for him to make a keynote foreign policy speech as he
rounds off his last trip abroad as president.
There
has been a flurry of activity on campus all week as every detail
has been planned and areas likely to come under the presidential
eye painted. and cleaned.
But
despite the security, a performance of The Twits in the arts
Centre will be going ahead at the same time.
The
presidential entourage insisted that hundreds of youngsters
should be allowed to see the performance despite the visit of
President Clinton.
It
means hundreds of children will be coming on site shortly before
six helicopters fly President Clinton, his wife Hillary,
daughter Chelsea and other VIPs in.
Two
cabinet members and two equivalent ministers from the United
States are also to come to the speech.
Six
helicopters, 350 extra telephones, 4½ miles of cabling, 150
extra computers, 40 flower arrangements are all involved in
today’s visit.
Sir
Brian Follett, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warwick
said:
"The
University of Warwick is honoured to be hosting this exciting
historic event.
"We
look forward to welcoming the President Clinton and his family
on his final visit to the UK as President."
