JUN 99] TILE HILL COLLEGE PRESS RELEASE
New Early Childhood Studies Degree At Tile Hill CollegeTile Hill College are delighted to announce the launch of a BA Degree in Early
Childhood Studies.
This Higher Education Qualification is part of the
Colleges 2 + 2 Degree Programme and is in collaboration with the University of Warwick.
Tile Hill College is the only Coventry College of Further
Education to offer such a Degree Course, and it is a testament to many years high quality
work by Early Years staff and students that Tile Hill's bid to offer the Course was
accepted from among several other, unsuccessful bids by other Colleges. We hope that this
reflects the high profile and excellent reputation that the College enjoys in this area.
The Degree itself is designed to widen participation in
Higher Education. It is aimed at students of over 21 years in age who might otherwise not
be able to attend University Courses.
We think that it will meet the professional aspirations of
people already working in childcare: in nurseries, schools, playgroups etc and tap into
both their rich potential and experience.
We also hope that this will prove part of an initiative to
raise the image of childcare professionals. There is considerable public ignorance of the
vital role played by such people and although perceptions are slowly changing, a degree in
Early Childhood Studies will only help to place childcare professionals on a par in the
public eye with teachers, lawyers, health workers and other degree-led professions.
