Students Give Cloister A Lick Of Colour
Students
at Coventry University are getting their paintbrushes out to
create a huge mural for the city’s Phoenix Initiative.
Six
students from the School of Art and Design have been asked to
create a temporary mural for the new Priory Cloister, which is
part of the 1,000-year walk being built through the city centre.
They
have designed an image for the mural with the theme of 'Coventry
Old and New'. The
image includes the Coventry skyline at night with the new
Whittle Arch illuminated in front.
The
mural will be 20 metres long and 3 metres high and will be
situated on the threshold wall located between Priory Place and
the building work taking place in the Priory Cloister.
The
mural will be in place for one year while construction work on
the Cloister continues.
The
third –year students working on the design are creating it in
the Students’ Union building.
Once
it is prepared by Catherine Auld, Louise Bingham, Jamie Fowkes,
Katie Mahoney, Mart Solomon, and Rachel Stoodley, it will be
transferred to the site, and is due to be unveiled on 14 April.
