College Strike Called Off
Lecturers
at Coventry Technical College have called off their strike planned for
tomorrow after receiving an improved offer from management.
Union
members now believe there will not be any compulsory redundancies at
the college in Butts.
The
voluntary redundancy package has now been improved so people with long
service can get up to £2,000.
And
some new positions are being created that will give senior staff
currently facing the axe a new role.
Their
teaching hours will be reduced but they will become Teaching and
Learning Coaches, passing on good practice to junior staff.
Geraldine
Egan, regional officer of NATFHE, the union representing the staff,
said the planned three-day strike, which was due to start tomorrow,
has now been called off.
She
said:
”The
branch believes the college will avoid compulsory redundancies at
this stage and have voted to call off their action.
“The
branch will reconsider its position if this changes.”
