NOV 00] FREEDOM TO BE YOURSELF CAMPAIGN NEWS
Naked Protestor Bares All In The Dock
A
Coventry nudist campaigner has appeared naked in court to face charges
of causing a public nuisance.
Vincent
Bethell appeared in the dock without any clothes on at Southwark Crown
Court to hear charges that he kept refusing to wear clothes in a
variety of public places in London during the summer.
He
has been largely confined to his cell for two months at Brixton Prison
while awaiting his date in court, because he has refused to wear any
clothes. To keep fit he jogs on the spot in his cell.
He
passed a psychological test and was not found to be insane. But he is
not allowed to mingle with other prisoners because he will not get
dressed.
Bethell,
who is a member of the Freedom of Information Campaign, has said he
will use the new Human rights act to defend himself when he stands
trial in January.
His
barrister said he would be relying for his defence on Article 10 of
the European Convention of Human Rights.
In
the meantime he has been remanded in custody, and returned to Brixton
Prison naked. |
