Help Out By Volunteering In Coventry
People
in Coventry are being urged to find out more about volunteering in the
city as part of a national week of action.
Staff
at Coventry Volunteer Link will be on hand every day at Coventry’s
central library through National Volunteer Week to give out
information on getting involved with groups in the city.
There
will also be representatives from community and voluntary groups such
as Coventry Older People’s Forum, Chrysalis and the Carers Centre,
who will be available to answer questions on how to get involved and
opportunities there are.
Volunteer
Link Project co-ordinator Nick Darwen said:
“There
are so many ways to get involved and you don’t have to commit a
lot of time.
“A
couple of hours each month could make a real difference to the lives
of people in the community or to the local environment.”
During
the week, which will run until 7 June, there will be a display
featuring urgent vacancies with groups in the area.
It
will give details of ten organisations who are in desperate need of
support.
One
such group is the WRVS, who are appealing for new volunteers with a
few hours spare to help run the Cosy Corner and Eye department tea
shops at Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital.
Anyone
interested in volunteering should call at the Volunteer Information
Point in the library in Smithford Way from 12pm to 3pm or telephone
024 7622 0381.
