A
new credit union is being set up for the Coundon, Chapelfields, Earlsdon, Spon End and
Whoberley areas. Credit Unions are non-profit making organisations which offer a
convenient savings and low interest loan service to its members. Anyone living in the
Credit Unions area can become a member. Credit unions are volunteer run and a
meeting for anyone interested in becoming involved will be held at:
Hearsall Baptist Church Hall, Queeensland Avenue, Hearsall, Coventry 7.30pm, Tuesday 24
November.
Ann Donnelly, a local resident and volunteer in the credit union and Isabelle Osborne
who has worked with credit unions elsewhere in the city, will provide information about
what needs to be done next and about volunteer jobs. Some of the things that can be done
to help include cashier work, book-keeping and operating computers. Helping credit unions
is satisfying work, it is informal and you can do as little or as much of it as you like.
Bob Bush, credit union development advisor with Coventry and Warwickshire CDA will also be
available to answer questions and deal with queries.
Other credit unions being set up and looking for helpers include the planned Foleshill,
Hillfields, Longford and City Centre credit union and Canley and Tile Hill credit union.
