Scores of courageous campers will be braving Britains most
haunted battlefield in the hope of spotting a spook or two.
This weekend more than a hundred people will pitch their tents at Edge Hill, the scene
of violent fighting in the English Civil War.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is organising the two-day Spookathon at the
battlesite at Radway, near the Warwickshire/Oxfordshire border.
Campers will collect sponsor money to raise cash for Marie Curie nurses, who provide
care at home for terminally ill cancer patients.
The event, on 24 and 25 October, promises to provide plenty of fun for the fearless
visitors.
Re-enactments of the battle, tours of the battlefield, camp fires and a pig roast are
all on the agenda. And for the fearless or just plain foolish a moonlit talk
about the ghosts and spirits which haunt the field.
A spokeswoman for Marie Curie Cancer Care said:
"There has been a good response to our appeal for campers and the figures are
increasing daily.
"It should be a fun weekend and will help boost our funds."
