A Rugby mum has hit the jackpot on
the lottery, winning a staggering £8.9 million. Angela OConnor was the only person
in the whole country to match all six numbers in Saturdays national draw, and the
champagne corks are still popping today.
Mrs OConnor, aged 38, from Chamberlain Road, Hillmorton, is married with four
children. She was due to pick up her cheque for £8,904,558 at a special press conference
in Birmingham today.
Before facing the papers she spoke to CWN on her husbands mobile phone. She said:
I am just so, so happy. Who would have thought it could be me. I am so
happy, it is wonderful.
Her mum Elizabeth McIntyre also lives in Rugby. She said the whole town seemed to be
celebrating today.
Speaking from her home in Boughton Road, Rugby, she said:
Angela called me as I was playing bingo. We announced it over the
microphone and everyone cheered. I still cant believe that she did it. Everyone I
have met since is smiling. I think it gives everyone a lift.
Mrs OConnor has played the lottery since it began but she never thought she would
win. She didnt check her numbers until she came home on Saturday night after an
evening out with her husband David.
Mrs McIntyre said:
She checked them on the television and then kept on checking them. She was
still checking them on Sunday, even when she knew for sure she had won. None of us can
really believe it.
Mrs OConnor works as a supervisor at an office cleaning firm OCS. Her 45-year-old
husband teaches people to drive fork lift trucks. But, Mrs McIntyre confessed, neither of
them were in the mood for work today. She said:
They have gone to get the money and meet the newspapers. I think they feel
like a king and queen it is wonderful.
The couples children Emma, aged 19, Charmaine aged 16, Nikita aged 13 and
10-year-old David, were also planning a major celebration. Mrs McIntyre said:
I am sure Angela will take them shopping. It will be a great Christmas
thats for sure.
Mrs OConnors winning numbers were 3, 25, 36, 37, 41 and 45 which scooped
her a jackpot of £8,904,558. It is the second big win in the area in just a month. Just
three weeks ago Daventry couple Kevan Moss and Vivienne Mole won more than £6,000,000 in
the Saturday draw.
