PC Honoured After Saving LifeA Warwickshire
policeman who grappled a suicidal man to safety could have saved the lives of passengers
on a train as well.
Rugby bobby PC Andrew Gallacher tried to
coax a man down from a footbridge over the West Coast railway line in Park Road, Rugby
earlier this year.
But as the man was about to throw himself
onto the line and into the path of a passing train, the brave officer acted. He
grabbed the man and pulled him to the ground for paramedics to take him to hospital.
PC Gallacher will be honoured before a
county police authority meeting next Tuesday, along with three other Warwickshire
colleagues.
Chief Supt Derek Cake and Chief Insp Rin
Shadforth have been commended for their peacekeeping efforts in war-torn Bosnia when they
were seconded to the Task Force there.
Stratford Officer,PC Jennifer Gibbons has
been commended for courage and quick thinking in saving the life of a 16-year-old man who
was threatening to jump from a bridge in Bearley.
PC Gibbons climbed onto the railway track
and distracted and calmed the teenager, allowing colleague PC Clark to drag him from the
parapet.
