Electricity giants
Powergen today denied that 2,000 jobs were under threat following their take over of East
Midlands Electricity.
The generating company took over the EMEB to move into the supply industry last summer
and are now planning centralise their six regional offices one of which is in
Coventry.
But a spokesman today stressed that the changes mainly to the building and
distribution departments would not mean the 2,000 job losses rumoured.
He said:
"We bought East Midlands Electricity last year and since then we have been
benchmarking parts of it with industry best practice.
"We have identified where there is room for improvements and have taken the
decision to reshape the business to deliver a step change to the way we deliver
performance.
"It is very important to take the staff with you when you made a fundamental
change. We have talked to them but we have made decisions on offices and we will retain a
regional importance, which is vital.
"The whole point of the operation is to improve customer service so the local
performance is vital. There are now decisions on jobs or which offices will be
effected."
