WATERSTONE'S PRESS RELEASE
Waterstone's Is Sent To CoventryOne of the
most exciting science fiction writers, Michael Marshall Smith, will cut the ribbon at
midday Saturday 25 July when Dillons reopens as Waterstone's
Michael Marshall Smith will stay on to sign copies of his
third novel, One of Us, just published by Harper Collins (£14.99). Steven
Spielberg has snapped up the film rights to his previous novel, Spares, and
Warner Brothers optioned One of Us within hours of its delivery to the
publishers.

Champagne and Waterstone's cake will be served to jazz from
the Dixieland Dudes. Frankie the Balloonatic from Circus Scene will be on hand with
his magic tricks and balloon modelling along with Krazy Keith, th fabulous facepainter.
Peter Rabbit will also be making a guest appearance to hand out goody bags and
balloons and to host a Peter Rabbit colouring competition.
The Coventry store, which trades from 7,000 sq ft is the
fifth branch of Dillons to be rebranded as Waterstone's. The range of titles on
offer in the store has been increased by about 15,000 to 60,000 titles, an increase in the
stock budget of 40%. More space has been allocated to fiction, crime fiction, travel
and children's books. The biography section has doubled in size.
Fourteen members of staff work at Waterstone's in Coventry.
Martin Eggleston, the Manager, has worked there for over a year. All his
staff have extensive retail and bookselling experience. Martin is joined by two
Assistant Managers, Anne Marie Dixon and Louise Moore, both of whom have worked at the
store for two years.

Opening hours are from 9.00am until 5.30pm, Monday to
Saturday - except Tuesday when it opens at 9.30am

There is wheelchair access to the store through the use of the shopping centre lift to the
first floor.
The opening of Waterstone's in Coventry is the fifth in a
pilot scheme for the rebranding of Dillons as Waterstone's. All are in catchments
where there are no branches of Waterstone's already. The six branches represent
bookshops in a wide range of cities and towns. The other five branches are in Kings
Road and Trafalgar Square, London, Bedford, Solihull and Oxford.
The principal changes include:
- Increase of range of titles and shop floor space
- Shelving - removing the curves to square corners - allowing
more titles to be put on the shelves
- Carpets - using the red carpets of the Waterstone's brand
- Lighting
- Repositioning of stock
- More tables at the front of the shops
- Waterstone's till furniture
- Fascia, signage and logo
