Severn Trent Strengthens Premier Position In US
Labs Market With Quanterra
Severn Trent Plc’s US division, Severn Trent Services, has acquired the
environmental laboratory business of Quanterra from Corning, Inc, further
strengthening its position as the market leader in environmental testing
laboratories in the USA.
The transaction was finalised on 31 January
2000 and is the latest in a series of targeted acquisitions by Severn Trent Services, which now operates
more than 30 laboratory facilities throughout the country.

objective of providing integrated solutions for selected environmental
markets.”
The Quanterra business, with annual sales of US$70 million, includes
laboratory operations in Sacramento and Santa Ana, California; Richland,
Washington; Knoxville, Tennessee; St Louis; Denver; Austin, Texas; Cleveland; Pittsburgh; Anchorage, Alaska; and Tampa, Florida. Quanterra
also operates service centers in Houston; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Philadelphia; Pensacola, Florida; and Raleigh.

solutions, employing over 3,000 people in the US and generating annual
sales of US$600 million.
