Rolls-Royce Workers To Strike Over Job Cuts

HOPKER
Workers
at Rolls-Royce in Coventry have voted to go in strike in protest of
the threat by the firm at axing 1,300 jobs.
Members
of the MSF union yesterday voted by 4-1 in favour of taking some form
of strike action.
The
job losses are being proposed in the engineering division, with many
posts being transferred to Canada as part of a global shake-up.
Union
leaders at the Ansty plant have held a series of meetings with
managers to try and put forward an alternative business plan to keep
the jobs local.
But
they say there has been little progress, with the company not paying
heed to their ideas.
MSF
secretary Amanda Richards said:
“Company
representatives did not work with us constructively within this
forum, however they did provide further details relating to their
proposals and indicated those areas where they considered our case
to be weak.
“Nothing
within the company response convinced us that the principles of our
counter-proposal were misguided.”
The
exact nature of the action has not been decided.
