Unions Consider Strike Action To Save Jobs
BY
ANTONY
HOPKER
Rolls-Royce
workers were today being shown an alternative business plan to save
jobs at the Ansty plant, and will be asked if they want to take
industrial action over the issue.
1,300
jobs are to go at the plant as Rolls-Royce plan to move the jobs to
North America.
Last
week the company formally issued notice of the intended cuts to
unions, who have 90 days to carry out consultation with bosses.
Union
leaders have drawn up what they believe is a “viable” alternative
to the proposal to cut jobs. 56 jobs are at threat in the first wave
of cuts.
Today
MSF secretary Amanda Richards was carrying out a series of
presentations to workers to show them the idea.
A
straw poll of views will be taken to see what the mood among workers
is. If there is support for a ballot for industrial action, it will be
organised after Christmas.
