Distance Learning On The Up
A
local firm specialising in distance learning is increasing its
programmes in business and IT by 50% to meet ever growing
demand.
Coventry-based
Resource Development International (RDI) has identified that the
growing popularity in distance learning is due, at least in
part, to the rising cost of university education through
increased fees and higher accommodation expenses.
John
Holden, Managing Director of RDI, said:
“There
is a national shortfall of 17% in computer engineers and we
have responded to this with ten additional courses.
“And
in the business sector we are collaborating with the Institute
of Chartered Secretaries & Administration (CSA) and the
Institute of Business Administration (IBA) to run diploma
courses which then qualify a student to obtain a BA in
Business Administration or a BA in E-Business in one year
through the University of Huddersfield.
"This
is particularly attractive for students for they can obtain
three business qualifications in three years as compared to
the normal three year campus-based degree route."
On
the Computing and IT pathway RDI students can obtain
qualifications through CompTIA, the Computing Technology
Industry Association, which was established by Microsoft,
Hewlett Packard and IBM. The company also run both Microsoft and
a Sheffield Hallam University IT programme.
There
are 13 computer and IT qualifications available through RDI’s
distance learning process which is branded as ‘Professional
Pathways’.
‘Professional
Pathways’ offers students routes to degrees and professional
qualifications without returning to the classroom and at
considerably lower cost than the campus approach.
RDI
is a global provider of distance learning qualifications acting
as the liaison and support between students and their chosen
universities or professional institutes.
Professional
Pathways also offers programmes covering finance, marketing,
business and management.
RDI's
Support Packages provide support services and liasion with the
partner universities and institutes, as well as giving
assistance with textbooks, tutor feedback, networking and
discussion during the course.
RDI
will also handle all paperwork related to fees and can negotiate
with employers and banks regarding financial support.
