Two truck drivers from the
Parcelforce Worldwide Parcel Hub in Baginton, Coventry, have recently
returned from a mercy mission to orphanages in Moldova.
Jack Chambers and Ron Latham
delivered bedding, wheelchairs, and crutches in the eastern European
country.
They were accompanied by 14
other members of their union, the Communication Workers Union, all
employed by Royal Mail and British Telecom.
Jack said:
"For the past few years
members nationwide have run a number of convoys to orphanages and
children's hospitals in Bosnia, Romania and Kosovo.
"This year we decided
to go to orphanages in Hancesti, Orhei and Telroy in Moldova, after
we were contacted by people in Moldova who explained how vital the
aid was - in fact with winter approaching, a matter of life and
death."
Eight trucks, provided by
Parcelforce Worldwide, Royal Mail and British Telecom, delivered
various items including 120 mattresses, £4,000 worth of crutches and
wheelchairs, and tonnes of bedding and blankets.
Jack added:
"The people we deliver
to are always very grateful for our help and it really is rewarding
to know you are helping, and hopefully making a difference to
children's lives.
"We would particularly
like to thank Parcelforce Worldwide for their support in supplying
the vehicles, insurance and fuel for the journey, as well as
allowing us time off to undertake the trip."
Jack
and his colleagues make their next trip in April. For further
