[27 APR 99] MARCONI COMMUNICATIONS PRESS RELEASE
Dutch Airforce Establish New System With Marconi

The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNAF) is to fully integrate its national military communications systems by linking key sites across the country with a new strategic Command and Control Network provided by Marconi Communications in Coventry.

The new voice network will link with the airforce's PBX-based Local Telephone Network which is used for day to day operational communications and was supplied by Marconi in 1991. Chris Lee, Marconi's Coventry-based senior manager for the project, said:

"The planned integration of the Dutch armed forces' strategic, operational and inter-force communications networks will create one of the most modern self-contained and robust systems in Europe. Marconi's success with this contract reflects our eight year relationship with the RNAF, as well as our excellent integration and turnkey project management capabilities and proven record of system support."

The Command and Control network is scheduled for completion in early 2000 and will support both voice and non-voice applications - such as operational data - through the interconnection of various communications hardware and software in different RNAF sites. Marconi is to provide the turnkey project management which includes project design, development, installation and commissioning as well as ongoing support.

Marconi Communications is a world leader in smart broadband transmission and network integration. Based in the UK and Italy, it has sales to more than 140 countries and is wholly owned by GEC, a global manufacturer of intelligent electronic systems.
