Catalogue firm Littlewoods has confirmed it is to
open a store in Coventry next month.
And there is speculation that the C&A store
in the Lower Precinct could be bought by the chain.
It will have a Littlewoods Catalogue Discount
Store (LCDS) on the Central Six shopping park, off Warwick Road,
opening on August 17.
A Littlewoods spokeswoman said:
“It will be selling products from the
Littlewoods catalogue at a reduced price. But it will not be the full
range we sell at the Littlewoods stores.
”They are not seconds and there is nothing
wrong with the goods – they will be the ones from the catalogue we
have not been able to sell. They are this year’s range.”
And the city could also be getting a version of
the more upmarket Littlewoods department store, as the company is
negotiating to take over some of the C&A stores set to close next
year.
The spokeswoman added:
“We have said we are looking at the C&A
stores where we do not have a presence in the High Street. “
Littlewoods said it was too early to talk about
individual sites. But Coventry is one of the cities that fits the
mould of having a C&A scheduled for closure and no Littlewoods in
the city centre.
