[19 APR 99] COVENTRY BUILDING SOCIETY PRESS RELEASE
Coventry Building Society Donates £15,000 To Charity

Coventry Building Society Charitable Foundation has announced that it has made its first donations to the local community totalling £15,000.

The Foundation, which is a registered charity was established by Coventry Building Society in November 1998 to provide a focus for its charitable giving.

Coventry Building Society Charitable Foundation Donations

The aim of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to charitable organisations which are based or active within the geographical area covered by Coventry Building Society’s branch network. Priority is given to charities aiming to improve the quality of life of those who are disadvantaged by handicap, disability or other factors or where assistance is required to create and support social and community development.

At the first presentation evening held on Monday 12 April, the Trustees of the Charitable Foundation presented cheques to twelve charities, each receiving an amount ranging from £500 to £3.000. Those benefiting were as follows:- Leamington Boys Club, Coventry Boys Club, Coventry City Farm, Emmaus (Coventry), Midlands Sports Centre, St Barnabas Family Centre (Coventry), Victim Support (Leamington Spa), Edwards Trust Appeal (Birmingham), Project Endeavour West Midlands, MacMillan Cancer Relief, Relate (Coventry) and Scope (Coventry).

Colin Franklin, Trustee of the Charitable Foundation commented:

"We are delighted to be supporting so many worthwhile causes, particularly as the organisations who have received a donation today are the first to benefit from the Coventry Building Society Charitable Foundation.

"The Foundation aims to make future donations on a quarterly basis and welcomes requests from registered charities within the local communities of Coventry Building Society's areas of operation."
