Coventry Beach Saved Jewson Time
Children
will be able to frolic in the sand in Coventry city centre this weekend as
Midsummer Madness settles in.
The
seaside activities had been under threat of cancellation as organisers
couldn’t find any sand for the event – until a local supplier stepped
in to help.
Youngsters
will now be able to build sand castles to their hearts’ content as there
is 20 tonnes of the stuff thanks to Jewson Coventry.
The
original contractor had to pull out, but Jewson will now deliver the sand
to Shelton Square on Friday ready for the big day.
General
Manager Neil Phillips said:
"We
were delighted that we could contribute something like this to an event
which obviously brings a great deal of pleasure to youngsters.
"It
is a great idea in the summer to create a beach in the city centre and
as soon as we heard about it Jewson wanted to be involved.
"Hopefully
it will be a great day with a big turn out and the beach will get
maximum use."
Gillian
Lawless, Events and Promotions Manager for the City Centre Company, is
delighted that Jewson has agreed to supply the sand and believes it will
make it a day to remember.
She
said:
"Last
year the beach was the part of Midsummer Madness that really caught the
imagination of the youngsters and it would have been a great shame to
have been without it especially as Argos had already donated the play
equipment.
"Now
there is the opportunity for the young - and the young at heart - to
build sand castles to their hearts' content."
Midsummer
Madness kicks off at 11am and is packed with summery activities including
a surf simulator, beach-style music courtesy of the Tropical Islanders and
Breeze, a coconut shy, clowns, face painting and ice cream vendors."
A full
programme of activities is available from the City Centre Company on 024
7683 3671.
