MAR 99] THE BLACKROOM
Hi and welcome to the
blackroom. My name is Pauline Black, lead vocalist with The Selecter. The
blackroom is a weekly diary of my travels around the thriving live music clubs of the
Coventry and Warwickshire area.
In the Bands2C section, I will be
reviewing local bands and interviewing those who catch my attention. Other areas of
interest will be a regular spot entitled The Story So Far
- a
series of interviews with past luminaries of the Coventry music scene. And if The
Selecter is on tour, which happens regularly, then Ill give you an inside view
of life on the road in Behind The Scenes.
If you know of a band, or indeed, are in a band, or if
youve heard of a new club thats really happening in the area, and you think I
should check it out, then e-mail me at pblack1@compuserve.com
Remember your feedback is vital!!
Watch for a forthcoming review of The Superheroes
stunning gig at the Hand and Heart on Saturday 20 February. I shall be interviewing
them for the blackroom before their gig at the Colin Campbell on Friday 26
February. Definitely the best band on the local scene.
Check out a future interview with fellow 2-toner, Charley
Anderson, currently recording a new album in Sweden with The Skalatones. Also
up for a review are Leicester based band Mirrorphase and local band Murph.
So, to kick off the blackroom
and just generally introduce myself, I thought it would be a good idea to give my
perspective on the beginnings of 2-tone in Coventry and a brief history of The
Selector.
