JUN 00] WARWICK ARTS CENTRE REVIEW
Dick Barton Special Agent
- Double-O Heaven
REVIEW BY
HELEN COTTERILL
It's
Double-O Heaven with Dick Barton Special Agent at Warwick Arts Centre
Dick
Barton Special Agent is an affectionate and nostalgic look at post-war
1940s culture and music by the Warehouse Theatre Company.
Brimming
with jokes, innuendoes and song, this comedy musical is a delight to
watch. Even if you do not remember the original radio series, which
was first broadcast in 1946, this production cannot fail to make you
laugh.
The
ensemble cast, including just one actress (Kate Graham), chop and
change from one role to another playing evil baddies one minute and
good chaps the next.
They
appeared to really enjoy playing the characters and threw themselves
whole-heartedly into the hammy roles.
The
odd fluff of lines and banging of interchangeable scenery only seemed
to add fun to the night's proceedings.
The
songs were short enough to be interesting and funny, with live piano
on stage played by Duncan Wisbey.
I
would recommend this production to anyone who enjoys double intendres,
slapstick comedy and a good night out!
