42nd Street Looks Like A Hit For Three Spires
Hollywood’s most glamorous
couple have denied that they will be in Coventry to watch an
amateur theatre production.
Catherine
Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas were rumoured to be planning a
visit to the city to see 42nd Street at The College Theatre in
the Butts this week.
But the recently wed stars will
not be taking in the show and cited their hectic work schedule
as the reason.
Graham Hill, chairman of the
Three Spires Musical Society, the organisation putting on 42nd
Street, says the Hollywood link has sent interest in the show
soaring.
He said:
“I have never known the
switchboard like it. You couldn’t get through at one point
last week – it was so busy my answering machine broke down.
“There is an obvious link
with Catherine Zeta-Jones and this show as she played the lead
role of Peggy Sawyer on the West End stage as a 17-year-old.
“It would have been nice if
they had come along but it still promises to be a great show
– one member of the technical team told me it is the best
production he has ever seen at the Butts.”
The musical, which tracks the
life of Peggy Sawyer as she taps and sings her way to Broadway
fame, kicks off on Tuesday night (22 May) and runs until
Saturday (26 May).
And despite the interest caused
by Zeta-Jones and Douglas, there are still seats left.
Mr Hill said:
“Tickets have been selling
very well but there are some available for each performance
– including the Saturday matinee.
“It is a very strong
production which brings together some of the finest talent in
the area and I expect it will be one of the box office hits of
the season.”
Tickets are on sale now priced at
£6.50 and £7.50.

office on 024 7622 0130.
