Three
Minute Heroes Get A While Longer
A
sell-out show featuring the greatest hits from the Coventry Two Tone
scene is to return to the Belgrade Theatre next year, along with a
host of top musicals and plays.
THE THREE MINUTE
HEROES ARE RETURNING
Three
Minute Heroes, written by Belgrade Theatre’s Bob Eaton, proved a big
hit when it made its debut in September.
The
story looked at the rise and the fall of the Coventry Two Tone era at
the end of the 1970s, and the problems with racism that engulfed the
city at the time.
Featuring
the songs that made stars out of The Specials and The Selecter, the
show had the audience dancing in the aisles, and it will return for a
ten-day run in May.
The
new season kicks off on 29 January with hit musical Blood Brothers by
Willy Russell, which has been labelled the best musical of the last
decade.
It
is the first time that the show, which tells the story of twins boys
separated at birth, has visited Coventry.
Following
that is John Buchan’s classic murder mystery The 39 Steps from 12
February, starring Simon Williams, who is well-known for his
performances in Dangerfield and Dalziel and Pascoe.
Music
will fill the theatre again from 19 February with Leader of the Pack.
The
show tells the true story of Ellie Greenwich, whose songwriting career
had a huge influence on the Phil Spector sound of the 1960s.
There
will be comedy from 27 February when Double Double comes to town,
before the mood becomes more tragic with Arthur Miller’s A View From
The Bridge.
Roald
Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox will be the Easter highlight. From 21 May
William Rose’s comedy Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner will be
running, before giving way to classic farce Charley’s Aunt from 28
May.
The
Roy Orbison story, featuring many of the legend’s hits, will be told
from 4 June, and the season will wrap up with a new comedy called The
Dice House from 13 June.
