Drivers Need More EducationDear
Editor
With
reference to your comments on the crash that left five young people
dead, and meaning no disrespect to any those involved in this tragic
crash, your comment that Warwickshire's road are dangerous I find I
must comment on.
Few
roads are dangerous, it is drivers that cause crashes 95 per cent of
the time, whether through inattention, inexperience or on the odd
occasion sheer stupidity.
All
drivers must be prepared to understand the limits of their driving
skill in any situation. And that needs more education than the normal
driving test.
Experience
is a useful tool for those who have long driving records, but it needs
to be the right experience to be effective.
I
totally agree that early media attention in sensationalising stories
is unwarranted, and must be very distressing to all others involved,
including those emergency workers whose primary concern is for those
involved directly in the crash.
They
do a sterling job and have a deep understanding of the issues
involved, something some journalists forget in their haste to get
their story published.
And
I whole heartedly agree that attention must be drawn to the
unacceptably large number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads
daily. But it is we, the drivers, that make the majority of our roads
'unsafe'.
My
condolences go to the families involved in this tragic incident.
