If anyone’s safe from having
their car stolen from a Coventry car park, it’s the police.
Their two car parks at Little
Park Street police station have won a top security award.
Now crime prevention officers
are calling on the owners of other car parks in the city centre to
follow the good example.
The award is given to
encourage car park providers to make sure there is effective lighting
and surveillance and a safe, clean and secure environment for
motorists and their vehicles.
Crime prevention officer PC
John Nicholson has now challenged others in Coventry to follow the
police’s lead as 30 per cent of all car crime across the country
takes place in car parks.
He said:
“We have shown you the
way, now see what you can do.”
PC Nicholson is already
working with the City Centre Company to bring as many car parks up to
scratch as possible.
He said:
“By prominently displaying
this award, car park providers will be able to show motorists they
have a clear commitment to working with the police to crackdown on
crime.
“This award indicates to
the public which car parks have taken steps to make sure their
security is properly assessed and increases customer confidence.”
PC Nicholson is available to
give security advice and can be contacted on 024 7653 9010.
