Warwickshire
traffic police stopped a total of 317 speeding drivers during a campaign targeting
dangerous motorists on the county motorway network.
In the month-long initiative, 126 drivers were issued with a fixed penalty of £40 with
three points on the driving licence.
A further 87 drivers who were travelling well in excess of the 70mph motorway limit
have received a magistrate court summons. One driver was caught speeding at 121 mph on the
M42 in North Warwickshire.
Officers patrolling the M6, M40, M42 and M69 also cautioned 104 drivers and warned them
about the dangers of excessive speed.
The campaign was part of an ongoing safety project focusing on drivers who cause
accidents through ignorance of the law and general road safety issues.
Chief Inspector David Barrett said:
"This was a successful campaign which aimed to spell out a clear message to
drivers about the dangers of excessive speed which is one of the countys biggest
killers.
"We will continue to target dangerous drivers in initiatives throughout the
year."
