Burglar Attacks
Coventry Pensioner
A 78 year old woman was attacked by a
burglar in her Coventry home on Sunday morning.
The incident happened at about 5am
yesterday morning in Glendower Avenue, Whoberley, Coventry.
The woman, who lives in sheltered
housing, got out of bed after hearing a noise and discovered a man
in the front bedroom. He demanded money and started to shake her.
The pensioner told the attacker to
stop as she has a heart condition but he continued to shake her
before she managed to get back into her bedroom.
She pressed the emergency button on
her telephone but the offender hit her across the face with the
phone handset. She may have passed out at this point and did not
see him leave.
The elderly woman managed to call
again at 5.30am. Police found the front door unlocked and believe
the offender left that way.
The victim suffered serious facial
injuries and bruises to her body. She is currently in hospital.
The offender stole a tapestry purse containing cash.
The attacker is described as a
white man, aged 18 or 19. He is of stocky build, about 5ft 5in
tall, with a local accent and short straight dark hair which had a
left side parting.
He wore a red open necked t-shirt
and dark trousers.
DC Claire Phillips from Little Park
Street CID said:
"Any reasonable person would
be horrified by the unnecessary violence used against this
elderly woman. We would appeal to anyone with information to
call 024 7653 9010."
