Con Man Strikes At
Coventry OAP's Home
More
than £4,000 was stolen from a Coventry pensioner after a man
posing as an electricity board official bluffed his way into her
house.
He
struck at the 84-year-old’s home, of Longford Road, Longford,
between 1pm and 1.30pm yesterday.
The
man persuaded the victim to come out of her house and listen to
the electricity box.
The
offender then went inside and searched the house. The victim
believes other people may have been involved, but only saw the one
person.
When
she went inside she realised that £4,000 in cash, a handbag and a
pension book had been taken.
The
man is 5ft 5ins to 7ins, plump and aged between 20 and 30. He had
a black jacket, dark cap and dark trousers.
Witnesses
should call 024 7653 9020.
In
two separate incidents on Saturday, which are believed to be
linked, two men tried to get into houses in Hipswell Highway,
Wyken and Strathmore Road, Stoke.
Nothing
was taken on either occasion. The men are both in the early to mid
20s, and are about 5ft 7ins tall. On both occasions, at 6pm and
7pm respectively, they pretended they were from an electricity
company.
Crime
prevention advice on how to stop elderly people being conned by
bogus officials will be given by police in Coventry next week.
