Armed Gang Holds Up
Coventry Bank
Terrified
customers watched as an armed gang held up a Coventry bank
yesterday and escaped with thousands of pounds.
The
raid happened in the Lloyds TSB branch in Moseley Avenue, Coundon
at 2.50pm as an employee in the bank was handing over bags of cash
to a security guard.
A
gang burst in to the bank and a hand gun was seen.
They
grabbed the money, described as “a substantial amount”, and
made off.
It
s not yet known how many people were in the gang, but there were
at least two black people and two white people in the raid.
They
escaped in a silver VW Golf V6. A silver Honda Legend which also
left at the same time is also thought to have been involved.
Police
are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and contact them
on 024 7653 9000.
They
have issued a particular appeal for the driver of a green Montego
to get in touch, who is believed to have tried to slow the
escaping vehicles down.
Customers
were in the bank at the time of the raid, but no-one was hurt and
no shots were fired.
