Football Fans Killed
In Motorway Tragedy
Nuneaton
Borough's FA Cup run ended in tragedy at the weekend when three
fans returning from the game were killed in a motorway accident.
They
were in a minibus that crashed on the M40 northbound just before
junction 11 at Banbury at 8.52pm on Saturday.
Fourteen
people, all men from the Nuneaton area, were in the bus, returning
from watching the club’s 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth in the second
round of the FA Cup.
Two
men, Sean Michael Folan, aged 30, of Olton Place, Nuneaton and
Martin Lashley, aged 38 of Prescelly Close, Nuneaton, died at the
scene.
Another
person, Cal Long, aged 24, of Marner Road, Nuneaton died yesterday
with his family at his bedside in the John Radcliffe Hospital in
Oxford.
Accident
investigators were still trying to work out what caused the crash
today. Two lanes of the motorway were shut for several hours after
the crash to allow the emergency services access to the vehicle.
Ten
of the men were taken to hospital in Banbury for treatment to
minor injuries. Another person was taken to the John Radcliffe
Hospital.
