A man on a bike used a knife to try and rob a woman cyclist in the dark late last night.

Police are seeking witnesses to the unusual incident in Rugby town centre about 11.15pm, where the woman managed to get away.

Insp David Barrett, of Warwickshire police, said:

“A woman was cycling home from work when she was stopped by a man in Moultrie Road.

“He was on a cycle and held a weapon to the woman’s throat, and attempted to steal her handbag.

“The woman, who is 33 and lives locally, managed to escape. She was not injured.”

The man is described as being of thin build, wearing a dark-coloured fleece top with a hood with a scar over the lower part of his face.
