Woman Dies In Canley House Fire
A woman died this morning in a house fire in Canley.
Crews from Canley and Coventry were sent to the scene in Marina Close about 2am. They
were on the scene for about five hours.
The fire was on the first floor of the semi-detached house.
The dead woman was named as Wilma McPherson, 59, who is believed to have lived at the
address.
A 36-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. He has not yet
been named.
The fire service believes a cigarette or similar was probably to blame for the fire. No
smoke alarm was fitted in the house.
Police do not think there are any suspicious circumstances and the case has been
referred to the coroner.
