A 16-year-old was indecently
assaulted as she tried to escape a man who was attempting to abduct her
in a Coventry street.
The teenager was walking down
Grayswood Avenue in Coundon at about 9.30am on Friday when the man drove
alongside her in a silver Honda.
He whistled at her and tried to
talk to her.
He then stopped the car and got
out, and asked the girl to go for a ride with him.
The attacker then pushed her
towards the car. While the victim’s arms were outstretched as she
tried to prevent herself being forced in the car, the man indecently
assaulted her.
A few seconds later the girl
found herself sitting in the front passenger seat of the car.
As the man ran around the car to
get back in the driver’s seat, she got out.
He reversed the car alongside
her and tried to speak to her again through an open window, but she ran
inside a shop to escape.
The victim said that as he
reversed at high-speed he narrowly avoided colliding with a red coloured
car.
DS Malcolm McCutcheon of Little
Park Street CID said:
“The girl was upset but was
not hurt. I would appeal to any witnesses who saw what happened, or
the driver of the red car to contact us urgently.
“It was a frightening
incident but thankfully she managed to escape from the clutches of
this man.”
The attacker is Asian, aged
around 30, chubby build and about 5ft 8in.
Witnesses should call 024
76539010.
